Ty Beic

Self Catering

Sarnau, Bala, Gwynedd

Run by cyclists for cyclists, Ty Beic is two one bedroom self catering holiday cottages near Bala, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park.

‘Ty’ is Welsh for house and ‘Beic’ is Welsh for bike. We chose the name because we are obsessed by cycling in all of its forms. We chose this area because it offers some of the finest mountain biking and road cycling in the UK. We have ridden our bicycles all over the UK and beyond and understand the needs of cyclists. Our holiday cottages have been created with these needs in mind.

Both cottages have underfloor heating with heat and hot water provided by a biomass boiler. The living areas have a comfortable sofa, dining table and chairs, TV, DVD and music system. Kitchens have a hob, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge and all the cooking utensils you would expect to find at home. The bedrooms have a king size bed or two singles, depending on your requirements. The en suite bathrooms have underfloor heating and powerful showers with plenty of hot water.

There are stunning views of the Berwyn Mountains which you can enjoy from inside the cottages or outside from your terrace.

All guests have access to private parking, secure bicycle storage, bike wash facilities and a laundry which also has a shared freezer. We provide bed linen, towels and wood for the stoves.

We will be open from the end of July and are taking bookings now.

Location

Ty Beic is on the edge of Snowdonia National Park and is the perfect base to explore all that North Wales has to offer. We are approximately 30 minutes drive from the mountain bike centres of Coed y Brenin, Llandegla, Antur Stiniog (Blaenau Ffestiniog), Revolution Bike Park (Llangynog), One Giant Leap (Llangollen) and the ClimachX, Marin and Penmachno MTB trails. Because these trails are purpose built they are well drained and therefore rideable throughout the year. When things get a bit muddy in Surrey the trails will still be clear up here.

There is also plenty of mountain biking to be had on the doorstep without having to get in a car and we’d be happy to show you some of the routes and trails we have discovered.

The area is also superb for road cycling, with quiet country roads, beautiful scenery, epic climbs and exhilarating descents on the doorstep. Bwlch y groes, the highest road pass in Wales, Horseshoe Pass, the ’Shelf’, Moel Arthur and Bwlch Penbarras are all within riding distance. Indeed ’Bwlch’ can be seen from Ty Beic.
